Before buying an electric car, perhaps everyone will be afraid of running out of electricity in the middle of the road and having to wait in a place for rescue. Because of this weakness before cars using internal combustion engines, the distance traveled per charge and the charging speed seem to be the two factors that are most commonly weighed.

The world’s oldest car magazine, Autocar, has compiled the world’s fastest charging models. These models not only have fast charging times, but also can go relatively long distances on a single charge. Here are 3 car models that are classified as having the fastest charging speed, with 2 of them appearing in Vietnam.

Top 1 – Lucid Air

Lucid Air is an American-born luxury sedan, behind an engineer who used to develop Tesla Model S. Lucid Air carries impressive parameters such as a capacity of 1,096 horsepower, a travel distance of about 837km per charge.

With a 900-volt electrical system, Lucid is capable of receiving charging current from a 350kW super-fast charging tower. According to calculations, with a 118kWh battery pack, Lucid Air can charge from 10% to 80% in just 15 minutes. With 80% battery, Lucid Air can travel about 670km, equivalent to the distance from Hanoi to Hue.

Top 2 – Hyundai Ioniq 5

The world's fastest charging electric car model: 15 minutes of charging is enough to run from Hanoi to Hue - Photo 2.

While the Hyundai Ioniq 5 isn’t the first all-electric model to carry the Hyundai brand, it has caught the attention of the EV market, at least with its unique pixel-inspired design. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is built on an electric vehicle-specific E-GMP chassis, and comes with an 800-volt electrical system.

According to Hyundai’s announcement, the Ioniq 5 model can receive current from a 350kW super-fast charging pillar, charging from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. However, practical experience shows that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 can only receive 350kW of charging current for a short time, usually only stopping at 230kW.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 belongs to the mid-size high-rise segment, which can travel about 450km per charge under normal use conditions. This model was once brought to Vietnam by TC Motors for market research. After that, a few dealers sold this model in an unofficial form with a reference price of about 2 billion VND. In the near future, maybe Ioniq 5 will be officially distributed in Vietnam.

Top 3 – KIA EV6

The world's fastest charging electric car model: 15 minutes of charging is enough to run from Hanoi to Hue - Photo 3.

Under the eye-catching exterior, the KIA EV6 seems to be similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 when using the same Hyundai E-GMP chassis. Therefore, this explains why the KIA EV6 also has the same charging capacity as the Ioniq 5: The same 800-volt power system, the same charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes.

KIA EV6 is an electric vehicle introduced by Thaco in October 2021, together with the launch of the new KIA Carnival model. According to the plan at that time, Thaco would officially distribute this electric vehicle in the second quarter of 2022, but so far, this model has not been sold. Thaco does not have much information about the model that will be sold in Vietnam, but according to research, the model that was brought back belongs to the First Edition version in the US, which can travel 441km per charge according to EPA standards.
