HMD Global kicks off 2023 with a low-cost Nokia C12 phone running Android 12 Go Edition. The phone is considered a successor to the Nokia C10 launched from early 2021 although it is smaller in size than most phones in the C series.
Despite being a cheap phone, the Nokia C12 is still designed to be quite durable. It has a polycarbonate body with a solid build. The phone is also drop protected and has tempered glass on the front. The phone is IP52 water and dust resistant. HMD has committed to quarterly security updates for 2 years.
Nokia C12 has a large 6.3-inch LCD screen with HD+ resolution. The phone measures 160.6 x 74.3 x 8.75mm and weighs 177.4g. For comparison, the C10 has dimensions of 169.9 x 77.9 x 8.8mm, 191g and a 6.52-inch screen. The recently launched Nokia C31 even has a large 6.75-inch screen.
The phone is powered by Unisoc SC9863A1 chipset, a chipset built on the old 28nm process, This chip consists of eight Cortex-A55 cores and PowerVR IMG 8322 GPU.
The phone comes with 2GB RAM but has the option to enable an additional 2GB of virtual RAM which comes with 64GB of storage but no further expansion via microSD card.
Nokia C12 has a single 8MP camera setup on the back with autofocus and LED flash and a punch-hole 5MP selfie camera on the front. The camera also has a pretty modern Night and Portrait mode.
In addition to support for 4G connectivity, other wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone also has a 3000 mAh battery and supports 5W charging for all-day use.
Nokia C12 costs 120€ (about 3.1 million VND) with a single configuration of 2GB / 64GB. It will be available in Germany and Austria first and will expand to other markets shortly after.
