(CHK) Apple is said to have developed a cheap stylus for the iPhone but canceled it at the last minute.

Apple was said to have planned to launch a new $49 iPhone-compatible Apple Pencil this year, but canceled the plan at the last minute.

According to a Weibo account, Apple is said to be planning to launch a new Apple Pencil codenamed “Maker” (or more likely, “Marker”) at an event in September 2022. Even more than 1 million of these accessories were produced, but the release was canceled at the last minute for unknown reasons.

To keep costs down, the device is said to have no force-sensing technology or a rechargeable battery, instead using a built-in chip that powers the stylus through the iPad or iPhone display, similar to how it works. movement of Samsung’s S-Pen.

At $49 the unreleased Apple Pencil is significantly cheaper than the first and second generation Apple Pencil models, priced at $99 and $129 respectively.

Unfortunately, there’s no record of the source of the Apple Pencil rumors, so claims would require a fair amount of analysis. Also, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumors about developing an Apple Pencil to work with iPhones, but none of those rumors have materialized.

The battery-free Apple Pencil, however, pairs perfectly with the latest 10th-gen iPads, has a USB-C port, and requires a $9 Lightning dongle to work with the first-generation Apple Pencil. However, it is still unclear why Apple has canceled plans for an interesting accessory that has already entered mass production.
