Cardano (ADA) Founder Charles Hoskinson confirms that he has signed an MOU with the government of Burundi. This is Hoskinson’s first major preliminary deal since the start of Cardano’s Africa tour in mid-October 2021.
During October, the IOHK team led by Charles Hoskinson traveled to Africa to meet with businessmen and politicians to advance Cardano’s cause. It was Hoskinson’s visit to Burundi that helped Cardano hit the latest big hit with an African country after Cardano signed another deal with the Ethiopian government in April 2021.

While many Cardano supporters have applauded Hoskinson for his efforts, however, some opponents of the Burundian president have expressed reservations about the deal. They argue that Hoskinson’s decision to hand over the ADA blockchain to the Burundian government was a big mistake.
“We knew that Cardano wanted to help reform Africa, so we took a deeper look at the people Hoskinson was talking to. It didn’t take long to realize that he was giving the technology to the wrong people. What kind of government is really in power in Burundi and who exactly are the people he’s partnering with?”
To demonstrate the concerns about the government of President Évariste Ndayishimiye in Burundi, some users have shared links to related documents including the US government report on Burundi. However, another department argued that Hoskinson had no choice but to work with government officials.
“You cannot create public infrastructure without the cooperation of public officials. If they are human rights violators, leave them alone. The crypto market is going as we all want it to be, those autocrats will “kill themselves” by driving adoption.”
In addition, Hoskinson and the IOHK research team also went to the Ethiopian Ministry of Education to monitor the student certification system mentioned in August. The credential system was set up to overhaul academic records. of 5 million students put information such as grades and attendance on the blockchain to collect data and provide a digital identity system.

“This is just the beginning. Our aim is to compete with other competitors for the entire national ID system, with about 110 million users.”
