Cardano is a blockchain platform that works with the purpose of creating a smart economy. The Cardano Foundation, based in Switzerland, is an independent body that assists Cardano users in all legal and commercial matters.

The partnership between the Cardano Foundation and the University of Zurich will last for three years. The platform will work with the blockchain technology (BDLT) team at the University of Zurich to explore more topics about Ouroboros – a Cardano consensus mechanism.

In addition, the Cardano Foundation will provide information to the University of Zurich BCC to expand our knowledge of the Cardano platform and also an opportunity to develop the platform.

Cardano Foundation CEO Frederik Gregaard explains that:

As blockchain is slowly becoming mainstream, more academic research is needed to improve understanding and bring about widespread acceptance among the general public. This is why we have specifically called education the core goal of the foundation for the future.

Dr Claudio Tessone, professor at the University of Zurich, said the University received invaluable input for the co-creation of research questions and methods from the Cardano Foundation. Tessone also added that the goal of this partnership is the advancement of the blockchain field. He said:

Our goal is to link micro-behavior to the global properties of blockchain-based systems.

The demand for blockchain education is growing rapidly. Last month, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) recommended organizations that provide regulators and policymakers with educational resources on blockchain. The recent MENA climate week organized by the United Nations and the government of Dubai also highlighted the role of blockchain in education. During the event, the panel noted that informative and educational content is what this community is in dire need of.
