A test version of the e-CNY app, China’s official digital wallet, has been rolled out on iOS and Android app stores in the country of billions of people.

Chinese people can now download this app and experience functions such as “open wallet and manage personal wallet” and “e-CNY trading service”.

However, the wallet app can only be used in 11 locations including: Tianjin, Suzhou, Xinjiang Xiong’an, Chengdu, Shanghai, Hainan, Trường Sa, Xi’an, Qingdao, Dalian and Winter Olympics venue.

The e-CNY application developer is the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People’s Bank of China.

As reported by CHK, e-CNY is the name of China’s digital yuan, which is being tested by the Beijing government in many regions. According to the Digital Currency Research Institute, as of early November, the e-CNY has been used by 140 million people, with a circulating value of more than $97 billion.

On January 6, the leading “super app” in China, WeChat, announced that it would start supporting e-CNY, bringing the ability to trade digital yuan to 800 million WeChat users per month.
