What is WhatsApp?
WhatsApp is one of the most popular chat and instant messaging apps available today. This service allows users to save data by texting over a computer connected to the Internet. Usually people use this app on a mobile device, but with the new version of Windows, users will eventually be able to access their chats directly from their desktop messaging tool.
The new desktop app is available to download on both Windows and MacOS. The software syncs with the mobile app. In addition, you can also customize notifications and shortcuts to your liking.
Nice and simple interface
WhatsApp’s desktop interface is exactly what you’d expect, without any frills or clutter in it. The options are clear and well organized. For anyone familiar with WhatsApp for Android, navigation and use won’t require any further explanation. If you are new to it, everything is also very easy to learn.
It doesn’t take much time or effort to learn everything. The options are reminiscent of the WhatsApp for Android program. Users may also be familiar with the web browser version, which is similar in functionality and layout.
Most of the functions are the same and very great
The WhatsApp for PC version is very similar to the web and mobile versions. Most of what you’d expect to see and use is on offer, except for now on the larger screen. You can chat, send and receive pictures or other documents. The app also provides the ability to create and manage groups and make changes to profiles.
When installing this software, you will have to scan the QR code with your mobile device. This is similar to WhatsApp Web. Your devices are then synced and you can start chatting from your laptop or desktop.
While the app is similar to the web version, it’s great being able to access chats without having to open up the web browser. The program is made more accessible by modifying settings to help you receive desktop notifications.
The problem is that you will need an ongoing connection with your phone. If your mobile device is not working, then you will not be able to log in to the desktop version. Other programs, like LINE, provide an OTP (one-time password) method. This keeps your messages safe, but it doesn’t interfere with the desktop experience in case the phone’s battery is depleted.
Chat better, faster and more comfortably
Connecting through a PC is usually faster, so files will be transferred and messages sent more quickly. Not only is the screen larger and easier on the eyes, but chatting on the computer keyboard is also much quicker and more comfortable for most users.
As with other versions, this chat app gives you the ability to manage groups with up to 256 people at once. You can also name the group as well as customize the message. They are useful for event planning or for professional setups.
If you have a webcam and microphone on your computer, you can send pictures, videos, and sound clips through your PC.
The phone should always be connected
Unfortunately, having apps connected to your phone is both a plus and a downside. Mobile devices will always need to be connected when you’re using WhatsApp for Windows. To reduce your data usage, make sure the Android device or iPhone is connected to the WiFi network.
Some options are missing
There are a few unexpected errors with the desktop application. Some options are missing, such as the ability to reach people through voice and video calls. With WhatsApp for PC running Windows 10, you also can’t share your current location.
If you use WhatsApp on a Mac, you can refer to the tutorial: How to use WhatsApp on Mac for more details.
