General Motors (GM) of the US is looking at the possibility of making car purchases with the Bitcoin cryptocurrency.

Last month, billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, tweeted on March 23 that US customers can buy its electric cars with Bitcoin. The Tesla CEO also added that Tesla customers in other countries can initiate payments in Bitcoin “at some point this year.”

Recently, another car manufacturer is also considering whether to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment for transactions. Specifically, the car company General Motors (GM).

According to a report by Crypto Briefing, GM chief executive Mary Barra said the firm is looking into the possibility of using Bitcoin as a means of payment.

“We will monitor and evaluate the potential for a cryptocurrency payment, and if there is high customer demand for it in the future, there is nothing stopping us from doing that,” chief executive Mary Barra to speak.

Unlike Tesla, where the electric car company has invested a whopping $ 1.5 billion in Bitcoin, GM said it will not invest in Bitcoin or other forms of electronic money.

The CEO of GM stressed that although General Motors does not invest in cryptocurrencies, it is still serious about its potential.

In fact, GM has filed for several blockchain patents that will serve as the company’s digital “parent book” to track customer purchases.

In addition to Tesla and GM, many well-known companies have also begun to take an interest in and invest in Bitcoin. Last October, the software company Square Inc of billionaire Jack Dorsey (the founder of Twitter) also spent $ 50 million to buy Bitcoin. Bank of New York Mellon Corp said it will start seeing Bitcoin as other financial assets, while Mastercard Inc. vowed to include Bitcoin in its international payment system this year.

Oil billionaire Kjell Inge Rokke expressed her support for Bitcoin. Rokke’s Aker ASA is opening a new division to access the potential of cryptocurrencies. Meanwhile, Chinese photography app company Meitu says it has invested nearly $ 100 million in cryptocurrencies Ethereum and Bitcoin.

General Motors is an American car manufacturer, headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. This is already the second largest car manufacturer in the world, after Toyota according to the global sales ranking in 2008. GM has been the company with top car sales for 77 consecutive years from 1931 to 2007.
