(CHK) The king of pickups in Vietnam – Ford Ranger is about to face a new opponent from China when this model has just been copyrighted at the National Office of Intellectual Property.
Recently, Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor has registered a design copyright for a new pickup model. Accordingly, this will be a rival of Ford Ranger Raptor after entering the Vietnamese market.
Specifically, GWM has just completed the copyright registration of a mid-range pickup model at the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam. Accordingly, the National Office of Intellectual Property has published Industrial Property Official Gazette No. 411, referring to the image of this model with a strong and sturdy design.
Based on the published images, this pickup model turns out to be the GWM King Kong Cannon that was introduced by the Chinese automaker last year.
The front of the car impresses with the design of the large grille integrated with a large chrome-plated frame, accompanied by a large headlight cluster. The rear has a bold and solid design, featuring a unique U-shaped taillight cluster. The crate door step and up and down steps are some other notable details.
In terms of size, the pickup has a body length that is 272mm larger than the rival Ford Ranger Raptor, reaching 5,635mm.
GWM King Kong Cannon is equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 190 horsepower and maximum torque of 360Nm. In its home market, this pickup model also has a version with a turbocharged diesel engine, producing 163 horsepower. Both engine blocks will come with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Great Wall Motor is setting up assembly lines to produce a number of vehicles at GM’s newly purchased plant in Thailand. From the registration of the copyright of the King Kong Cannon model in Vietnam, it is likely that the car company will also produce a number of other models in Thailand for sale in the Southeast Asian market.
