The much-anticipated Toyota Hilux style pickup is ready to go on sale in the Indian market in January 2022. In fact, this car was recently seen completely uncovered during a TV commercial filming in Gurgaon. A new report claims that Toyota dealers have started taking pre-orders for the Toyota Hilux with a reported deposit of Rs 2 lakh, or about VND 60 million when converted into Vietnamese Dong.
Toyota has yet to make an official announcement about the Toyota Hilux. However, according to Indian media, Toyota’s pickup will be offered in two variants, Hilux and Hilux Reo. This model is expected to cost about Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh (about 760 – 912 million Vietnamese Dong). The new Toyota Hilux will compete with the Isuzuki Hi-Lander and V-Cross priced from Rs 18.05 lakh to Rs 25.60 lakh (about VND 562 – 779 million) and the Ford Ranger.
The new Toyota Hilux is developed on the IMV-2 platform, which has been used for the Toyota Innova Crysta and Toyota Fortuner. With a length of 5.3 meters, this pickup truck has a wheelbase of more than 3 meters, higher than the Innova and Fortuner. The Hilux is likely to be offered with a 2.8L, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that produces a maximum capacity of 201 horsepower and maximum torque of 500Nm. Transmission options can include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The model will also get a 4×4 drivetrain.
The base variant of the Toyota Hilux can also get a 2.4L diesel engine with a maximum capacity of 148hp and a peak torque of 400Nm. Toyota Hilux Pick-up will likely share some components from Innova and Fortuner made in India, which will help Toyota pickup model achieve competitive price. Most likely Toyota Hilux will have an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
