TP-Link Archer C6 is TP-Link’s newest Wireless AC router. It has a glossy black design and 4 external antennas. The router comes with the latest technologies like Beamforming and MU-MIMO. TP-Link does not tell what the gain of those antennas is, but they are quite large.

The biggest advantage of this router is the cost. At the price of VND 1,290,000 at the time of this article, this could be the cheapest AC1200 MU-MIMO wireless router with all Gigabit ports. Archer C6 reduces the barriers to access to standard Wireless AC routers. If you’re still using an old Wireless N router, this one is definitely worth a look.

Hardware specifications of TP-Link Archer C6

Archer C6 supports Wireless AC1200 with a maximum link rate of 867Mbps on the 5Ghz band and 300Mbps on the 2.4Ghz band. Therefore, you can expect maximum actual speeds of 500Mbps on the 5Ghz band and around 100Mbps on the 2.4Ghz band after taking into account the network losses.

TP-Link also includes MU-MIMO support with this router, allowing you to enjoy better performance with MU-MIMO compatible device. The router also supports the Beamforming format to increase coverage. Neither of these features are enabled by default. However, the TP-Link Archer C6 doesn’t have a USB port, probably due to the router’s affordable price tag.

TP-Link Archer C6 comes with 4 Gigabit LAN ports and one Gigabit WAN port.

WAN performance

Having a Gigabit Ethernet port doesn’t mean the router is Gigabit Internet ready. The router was tested in a test environment and did a speed test with an actual 1G Internet connection to see what the maximum Internet speed the Archer C6 can support.

This router peaked at ~ 941Mbps, similar to all routers with Gigabit Ethernet WAN ports. Therefore, it should have no problem supporting TIME 1G or UniFi 800Mbps packet on wired LAN. However, you need to turn on the option “NAT Boost” in the system parameters otherwise the speed will be slower. This option is usually enabled by default.

Wireless performance

We want to know how good the wireless capabilities of the Archer C6 are. So I put it in a typical test environment for the router to show real-life performance. The results are actually quite surprising from such a cheap and affordable device.

I tested the Archer C6 using iPerf on a laptop with a wireless card integrated with AC1200 with another desktop computer acting as a server. To increase the accuracy of the test, I also ran a speed test with my 1G Internet connection.

In short range, the download speed can reach a consistent 475Mbps on With a typical long-range test at a distance of 7 meters and a concrete wall, download speeds received were still quite good, at 300Mbps. The wireless performance of the Archer C6 is truly amazing. This router offers really good wireless speeds and a great wireless coverage.

The performance on the 2.4Ghz band is not surprising, as in today’s times, the 2.4Ghz band is often congested and crowded. The speed is much slower. With that, you should always use the 5Ghz band whenever possible. All of these tests performed with MU-MIMO and txBF disabled because the test laptop couldn’t benefit from it.

TP-Link Archer C6 is a strong competitor in the affordable router market. The performance of the Archer C6 is truly impressive. It works relatively well despite being just an affordable router. The performance that Archer C6 delivers can easily surpass some mid-range routers.

Such low prices, of course, force you to trade off some features. For example, the Archer C6 lacks a USB port and doesn’t have many of the features typical of high-end routers. However, if you ignore that, this is actually a good wireless router that helps you get through a lot of everyday tasks.
