The first foldable phone powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip has arrived. It is Honor Magic V with a series of highlights in design as well as hardware.

Honor’s first foldable smartphone comes with a large 7.9-inch main folding screen that can be fully closed flat for enhanced protection and a 6.45-inch display with 120Hz refresh rate and 2560 resolution. x 1080px (21:9 aspect ratio).

The size of the external display is much closer than what you see on a typical smartphone, which should make typing and other everyday tasks much easier.

Honor emphasized the importance of having a usable cover screen on the Magic V and even compared its solution on stage next to the Galaxy Z Fold3 and its tall and narrow 25:9 display.

The Magic V’s main 7.9-inch flexible OLED display offers a 90Hz refresh rate and 2272 x 1984px resolution. The aspect ratio here is 10.3:9, divided into two areas roughly equal to a 21:9 frame using two apps side-by-side. Users also get HDR10+ support and 10bit color as well as a peak brightness of 800nits. Magic V is also the first foldable device to receive IMAX Enhanced certification.

Honor won’t compromise the camera experience when you have three 50MP modules on the back. A 50MP main camera with a 23mm-equivalent lens, a 50MP 13mm-equivalent ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP color spectrum lens. There are two 42MP selfie cameras housed in punch-holes on the cover display and on the main display.

Honor will offer 12GB RAM as standard on all versions of the Magic V while storage varies between 256GB and 512GB. The 4,750 mAh battery with 66W wired charging is responsible for maintaining the device’s operation. The software side is covered by Magic UI 6.0 based on Android 12.

Honor Magic Versions and Prices

Honor Magic V is available in Titanium Silver, Black, and Burnt Orange colors. The starting price is 9,999 CNY (35 million VND) and up to 10,999 CNY (nearly 40 million VND) for the 512GB memory version.

The first sale in China is scheduled for January 18. An Honor spokesperson said that the company has yet to decide whether it will launch the Magic V outside of China.
