Today, Instagram introduces a new security check – Security Checkup – for those whose accounts have been hacked before. Users will see a prompt asking if they want to check their security when they sign in to their account.
Security Checkup will guide users through security steps, including confirming other accounts that have the same login information, reviewing login activity, and updating recovery contact information.
Instagram is also planning to add support for two-factor authentication through WhatsApp, in addition to providing security codes on phones and authentication apps like now.
According to Instagram, accounts claiming to be Instagram in messages for people to share passwords are on the rise. Note that, about the password, Instagram only sends email and to check the authenticity of the email sent, you can go to Settings -> Security -> Email from Instagram.
The emails were sent from Instagram legitimately and are likely from bots trying to access multiple accounts at once. This annoys you, but doesn’t mean your account has been hacked.
This security feature comes at a time when the recent wave of password reset emails has been cluttering up some people’s inboxes.
