(CHK) The appearance of 7-seat KIA Seltos will likely make sales of 7-seater SUVs such as Toyota Fortuner, Honda CR-V and Hyundai Santa Fe decrease significantly.
In early April this year, when KIA announced the change of its logo and brand slogan in India, the automaker also announced that it would enter a new segment in India in early 2022, without detailing. reveal any more details. At first, it was rumored that a mid-sized MPV would be launched by KIA. However, it is more likely that this upcoming model will become an SUV and specifically a 7-seater.
The three-row version of the compact mid-size SUV is the latest trend in the Indian car market. We have seen Hyundai Alcazar born from Creta, Tata Safari born from Harrier and MG Hector Plus born from Hector. Among all SUVs in this segment and price range, only KIA Seltos has not received the 3-row version. This is especially surprising since the entire competition has moved into the three-row segment. More importantly, Hyundai has adapted the Creta platform for the 3-row Alcazar and so a 7-seat version of the Seltos will indeed be launched.
KIA has carefully researched and is aware of the interest of consumers in the 3-row SUV segment. In fact, a three-row model of KIA has appeared in many countries around the world while testing. This model is speculated by the Indian media to be a 7-seat version of KIA Seltos. This model has also been spotted before and was initially believed to be an MPV. However, upon closer inspection, it seems that this is actually a stretched version of the KIA Seltos. Take a close look at this test car above and you’ll notice that the A-pillars, window lines and front doors are actually quite similar to those of the Seltos. However, the roof is higher to create more space for the third row.
Previous spy shots have also revealed that this test car has a longer rear door than the Seltos. The upcoming SUV will certainly be underpinned by the same platform as the Hyundai Alcazar. It is basically a stretched version of the platform used by Seltos. The rear end of the test car, as shown in these images, is completely covered in camouflage. This is where many would expect to focus most of the changes with a longer rear overhang, a distinct rear glass area and a redesigned, more upright tail door. The seven-seat version of the Seltos also comes with a new grille and front bumper design along with new alloy wheels.
Under the hood, the seven-seat KIA Seltos will likely borrow engine options from the Hyundai Alcazar. That means the car will use a 2.0-liter petrol engine with 156.8 horsepower and a 1.5-liter diesel engine with 113.4 horsepower. Although Hyundai offers a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic for the Alcazar, KIA can still opt for other transmissions to make some difference. Like the Alcazar, the 3-row version of the Seltos will likely be offered in both 6- and 7-seat configurations. The 7-seat Seltos will be a serious competitor of Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Santa Fe or Honda CR-V.
