Recently, Indian tradition reported that an 18-year-old man named Shiva living in Telangana state spent 11 days eating and sleeping in a tree to avoid infecting his family after contracting corona virus.

When India imposed a nationwide lockdown last year, many migrant workers returned home because their workplaces were closed. Many people also have to think of ways to isolate themselves due to cramped homes.

Shiva is a student studying in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana state. After the number of Covid-19 infections in the city increased sharply, Shiva also had to return home. This young man received a positive test result for corona virus on May 4, 2021 and the volunteers in the village advised him to isolate him from his family.

However, because of the cramped living situation in the house, it was impossible for him to isolate without affecting his family members.

After contracting Covid-19, young man Shiva in the state of Tengala, India, isolated himself on a tree like Tarzan

Therefore, this young man came up with a unique plan: he tied bamboo sticks to the tree branches overhead to create a place to eat and sleep for himself. He also created a pulley system and a bucket to receive food and necessary supplies that the family sent up.

The young man said: “No one in the village came to see me because of the fear of COVID-19. But I think there is no need to panic because of COVID-19, you can overcome it with positive thinking.”,

Shiva said that while resting in the tree, he reads books, listens to music, talks with friends.

By the time the media discovered the incident, Shiva had been isolated on the tree for 11 days. The village where Shiva lives has 350 households, but the healthcare center is 5 km away, and the nearest hospital is 30 km away.

Although a new isolation center was established in the district on May 13, very few people knew about it and they had to come up with their own isolation measures. Apart from Shiva, many people in the village are self-isolating in bathrooms, makeshift huts or similar ways.

In addition to the case of Shiva, 7 migrant workers from Chennai to Purulia district, West Bengal state also had to self-isolate on a banyan tree and two mango trees. Because their families lived in mud huts, they decided to isolate on trees so as not to infect their families. This group of people built 7 bamboo huts and spread mosquito nets to live on trees for 14 days.
