Recently, Meta has announced that it is offering a digital clothing store that allows users to buy and change clothes for avatars in the metaverse.
The company believes that accessories and clothing will become an integral part of identifying users, and enticing them to spend money on digital clothing. These skins NFTs can be worn across Meta apps, including Facebook, Instagram and Messenger.
These clothes “for sale” by Meta are all famous and branded products, such as: Prada, Balenciaga, Thombrowne,… The price of each available clothing model has not yet been revealed.
On his personal Facebook, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg added that more studios will be added in the future. Many other fashion brands are also working with technology companies to create “virtual” products to increase sales and fan base.
Previously, during a live stream on June 17, Eva Chen – Director of Fashion Partnerships of Instagram gave followers a preview of the brand’s clothes. It’s a T-shirt, low-rise jeans with a belt, worn on Zuckerberg’s avatar (virtual character representing the user).
“Digital merchandise will be an important way to express yourself in the metaverse and a big driver of the creative economy. I’m excited to add more brands and bring this feature to VR soon. ” – Mark Zuckerberg shared.
With VR, Mark seems to be referring to Horizon Worlds, Meta’s flagship metaverse app. Owners Meta Quest – A new line of VR headsets will probably love this extra feature. Many speculate that it is very likely that users of the platform will also wear these digital items in Horizon World.
However, according to experts, the journey to entice users to join the metaverse of Meta will not be easy. Somehow, Zuckerberg realized that focusing on the metaverse too soon put them at risk. In May, the CEO stated that the change would cost the company a “significant amount of money” over the next three to five years.
