On March 20, Chinese car manufacturer Chery revealed drawings of their first sports car, the iCar GT. iCar is an electric vehicle brand of Chery Automobile, founded in 2021, focusing on mini electric cars. However, in January this year Chery announced it would launch high-performance electric SUVs as well as sports cars under the iCar brand name.
Chery has not released many details but from the drawing, it can be seen that this is a 2-door electric coupe with an elongated design, large front bumper and raised hood.
One of the distinctive design points of the iCarr GT is that the front and rear lights are shaped like the letter T, similar to the Tesla logo. As is often seen on sports cars, the rear spoiler and wheels are made very large. However, not all of these elements will be included in the design for the commercial version.
The concept of the iCar GT will debut at the Shanghai auto show on April 18. However, the GT won’t be the first car to launch under the iCar brand name. In January, Chery announced it would launch an electric off-road SUV later this year. The vehicle is codenamed S56 and initial images have also been revealed.
According to Sina, cars under the iCar brand will target the market segment in the price range of $22,000-58,000.
In 2022, Chery New Energy achieved a sales growth rate of 112.9% with 232,814 electric vehicles sold, of which the main sales were the Cery Ant and QQ Ice Cream mini EV.
This year, Chery will also enter the Vietnamese market with the first model of the Omoda brand, the Omoda 5. The company also revealed its plan to bring the electric version of this model home.
