After a long wait, Volkswagen has also announced the price and details of the variants of the mid-size SUV Volkswagen Taigun in India. In the world’s second most populous country, the new Taigun is priced from Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 17.50 lakh (about 321 – 536 million Vietnamese Dong).

Customers can order this SUV online or through authorized VW dealers by paying a deposit of Rs 10,000 (approximately VND 3 million). Volkswagen Taigun is offered in two levels Dynamic Line and Performance Line. The Dynamic line is offered in three versions including Comfortline, Highline and Topline, while the Performance line is offered in two versions, GT with manual transmission and GT Plus with automatic transmission.

Volkswagen claims that the Taigun SUV has received more than 10,000 orders in just 30 days. The new Volkswagen Taigun mid-size SUV will compete head-to-head with the likes of Hyundai Creta, KIA Seltos, Toyota Corolla Cross, Honda HR-V, Skoda Kushaq, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster and the upcoming MG Astor. The manufacturer has also expanded its dealer network in India with 150 points of sale and 119 service facilities across 115 cities.

The new Volkswagen Taigun mid-size SUV is offered with two engine options: 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol. A 6-speed manual transmission is offered as standard, while a 6-speed torque converter will accompany the 1.0L TSI engine. The 1.5L TSI EVO engine is also equipped with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Volkswagen Taigun’s 3-cylinder turbo engine is capable of producing a maximum capacity of 113.4 horsepower at 5,000-5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 178 Nm at 1,750-4,500 rpm. Meanwhile, the 1.5L TSI EVO engine is the same engine used on the T-ROC, Skoda Kushaq. This engine produces a maximum capacity of 147.98 hp at 5,000-6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 250 Nm at 1,600-3,500 rpm and comes with a 7-speed DSG gearbox with gearshift paddles. .

The new Volkswagen Taigun is based on the MQB AO IN platform, which is essentially the Indian version of the MQB AO Platform. This platform was also used to develop the Skoda Kushaq. In fact, the Volkswagen Group will soon introduce two new sedans based on this platform in the Indian market.

In terms of proportions, the new Volkswagen Taigun is 4,221mm long, 1,760mm wide and 1,612mm tall. This SUV has the longest wheelbase in the segment at 2,651mm. The SUV offers 385 liters of trunk space and can be increased to 1,405 liters by folding the rear seats down. The rear seats of the car are divided into a ratio of 60:40.

Taigun also marks the launch of a new Volkswagen logo in the Indian market. Volkswagen India is working to revamp its dealer network by increasing digitization and connectivity.

The new Volkswagen Taigun shares design cues from Volkswagen’s larger SUVs including the T-Cross, T-ROC and Tiguan. The car has a signature 3D chrome front grille and LED headlights with integrated DRLs. The new Volkswagen SUV also features the first infinity LED taillights in its segment. The car comes with an electric sunroof, trapezoidal chrome wings. The most advanced variant uses 17-inch Manila alloy wheels.

The new Volkswagen Taigun is offered in five exterior colors: Curcuma Gold, Candy White, Wild Cherry Red, Carbon Steel Gray and Reflective Silver.

Inside the cabin, the new Volkswagen Taigun has a dual-tone color scheme with gray covering most of the dashboard and black treatment along with red accents on some of the body panels. The car has a new flat-bottom steering wheel, a dashboard with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 6-speaker sound system with subwoofer, and touch-based climate control. The car also has My Volkswagen Connect, the app for connected car technology.

The new Taigun features sporty red ambient lighting, faux leather seats with cherry red stitching and ventilated seats. The SUV’s infotainment system also supports Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless mobile charging, and voice command recognition. The Volkswagen Taigun comes with dual adjustable rear vents, a bottle holder in the dashboard, power folding & adjustable side mirrors, a multifunction steering wheel and a cooler.

Volkswagen Taigun also has cruise control, parking sensors, electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD, 6 airbags, Isofix child seats, auto-dimming IRVM, hill descent control, rear view camera, collision braking… Electronic stability control (ESC) comes as a standard safety accessory.
