The new Toyota Hilux pickup truck that many have been waiting for will officially go on sale in the Indian market on January 23, 2022. Interested customers can pre-order through Toyota authorized dealers by paying a deposit of between Rs 50,000 and Rs 2 lakh (approximately VND 15-60 million).

The new Toyota Hilux pickup will not be introduced as a CBU. It is expected that the Japanese-branded car company will be able to import loose components and then assemble them at the Bidadi-based factory. The new Toyota Hilux is expected to cost about Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh (about 763 – 916 million VND when converted into Vietnamese currency). The new Toyota Hilux will compete with the Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max and V-Cross. It is expected that Toyota’s pickup model will be offered in two variants, Hilux and Hilux Reo.

The new Toyota Hilux is based on the IMV-2 platform that is also the foundation for the Innova Crysta and Toyota Fortuner. The new version of this pickup will share engine options and some equipment with the Fortuner. Toyota Hilux owns a wheelbase of 3,085 mm with a length of more than 5.2 meters.

Toyota’s pickup model is expected to be equipped with a 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine with a maximum capacity of 204 horsepower and maximum torque of 500Nm. This engine will come with four-wheel drive. Transmission options can include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Toyota Hilux is expected to be sold with a dual-cabin body style. This pickup will share the front design with Toyota Fortuner. However, Toyota will make subtle design changes to bring freshness. Some of the design highlights will include a larger hexagonal grille, swept-back LED headlights and sturdy bumpers.
