Google recently warned users that their Gmail account could be deleted. The American tech giant is making a major update to its terms and conditions of use.
Anyone with a Gmail account should be aware of this updated policy now, because Google said that from December this year, they can start permanently deleting their Gmail, Google Photos and YouTube accounts. .
That may sound “scary,” but there’s still a simple way to make sure your account stays up.
According to British journalist Dave Snelling, you just need to use your Gmail on a regular basis. The new rules will only affect people who haven’t used email and signed in to their Google Photos for two years.
Once the deadline is reached, Google will review and decide whether to delete the accounts and the things stored therein.
The US technology company said it is taking measures to reduce security threats such as spam, online fraud and account hijacking.
In a blog post, Ruth Kricheli – a representative of Google said: “Users want the products and services they use online to be safe and secure.”
“If an account is left unused for a long time, it is more likely to be compromised. Neglected or unattended accounts often rely on old passwords or reuse existing passwords. may have been compromised, two-factor authentication is not set up, and users receive fewer security checks” – said Mr. Kricheli.
“Starting later this year, if a Google account hasn’t been used or signed in for at least 2 years, we may delete the account and the data in that account, including content in Google Workspace. (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Meet, Calendar), YouTube and Google Photos” – Google representative stated.
If you’re a regular Gmail user, that’s fine, but if you have a second account, chances are you’ve forgotten or haven’t used it for a while. To keep that account, make sure you stay signed in and in use.
Google further notes that this policy will only apply to individual Google accounts and users will be warned before the removal takes place, so you’ll receive notices before the account and any other changes. The data is completely gone.
News of the change to Gmail accounts comes just days after Google revealed an incredible upgrade is coming to Gmail in the coming months. The new feature can even… write emails for you.
It’s called “Help me Write,” which checks what emails have been sent to you and creates a perfect response that doesn’t even require typing.
This is because this feature uses the latest generation of intelligence (AI) technology. At the annual I/O event, Google boss Sundar Pichai demonstrated how a new Gmail feature composes a letter to the airline asking for a refund due to a canceled flight.
The new feature will incorporate details from previous emails and give users the option to “elaborate” to make the message look longer, more convincing, and more emotional.
Mr Pichai said the company is using the latest generation of AI – the software behind chatbot Bard and rival ChatGPT – to ‘radically’ reimagine all of its core products.
