Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming service, has officially announced that it has begun rolling out music and podcast downloads for the Spotify application platform on Apple Watch. In other words, Apple smartwatch owners can now listen offline directly on their device.
This is an extremely useful feature because not all Apple Watch models support mobile internet connectivity, along with the rapidly increasing number of Spotify users on Apple Watch.
However, like on other versions, the offline listening feature on Spotify Apple Watch will require users to own a Spotify Premium (paid) account. But of course this is not a big deal because users can use one Spotify Premium account on multiple devices.
In addition to the ability to listen to music offline, the Spotify Apple Watch app will also be added with a feature that allows users to control music playback on many different devices via Spotify Connect. For example, you can play music on your TV or smart speaker and control (pause, skip, etc.) right on your watch.
All of the above features will be rolling out to Apple Watch Series 3 and later starting today, and require devices to be running on watchOS 6.0 or later.
In related news, Spotify has also announced that it will bring offline music playback to the Wear OS version of the app. However, the specific implementation date has yet to be determined.
