What is Bitcoin Core?
Bitcoin core is a complete client application used by nodes operating on the network Bitcoin. It offers a high level of security, privacy and stability. However, it has fewer features and consumes a lot of space and memory.
It is free and open source software and offers a fully verified bitcoin wallet. It is considered the reference installer of bitcoin. Initially, the software was Satoshi Nakamoto published under the name “Bitcoin”. Then changed the name to “Bitcoin Core” to distinguish it from the network. For this reason, it is also known as the “Satoshi client”.
This is not a standalone application but part of a suite of applications that enable the implementation of the Bitcoin blockchain.

Features of Bitcoin core
Bitcoin Core is programmed to decide which blockchain contains valid transactions. Bitcoin Core users only accept transactions for that blockchain. It has the following characteristics:
- Decentralization: It is the users who keep Bitcoin decentralized. They run their own Bitcoin Core full nodes. And each of those full nodes follows the exact same rules for deciding which blockchain is valid. (The full node is also known as the full node).
- No voting: No voting or other participating process involved: Only individual software that follows the same rules. “Mathematics” evaluated identical blocks and came to identical conclusions about which blockchains are valid.
This shared agreement (also known as a consensus) allows people like you to accept only valid bitcoins. Enforce Bitcoin’s rules for even the most powerful miners. In addition to the improved Bitcoin decentralization, Bitcoin Core users also receive the following characteristics:
- Better security for their bitcoins.
- Security is not available in other wallets.
- User interface and other powerful features (the features I present in full the next part).

Compatibility
Supported Operating Systems
At first, the client application included a cryptocurrency wallet which was only available for the Windows operating system. But then, it had a number of updates that made it compatible with other operating systems. Currently compatible with:
- Windows
- Mac OS X
- Linux
- Ubuntu
- ARM Linux
What cryptocurrencies does Bitcoin core support
Bitcoin core wallets only support Bitcoin.
The cost related to the bitcoin core wallet
Downloading the Bitcoin Core software is completely free, but there are some costs to use. Including:
- Bandwidth (data)
- Transaction fee.
What is required to open a bitcoin core account
To get started, you need to figure out how to open a Bitcoin Core wallet. But before that, there are a few things to keep in mind to make sure the process goes smoothly. For your computer to run the Bitcoin Core client, you need the following:
- Approximately 200 GB of hard drive space to hold the entire Bitcoin blockchain. And there’s room for future transactions, all of which require storage.
- Internet connection, preferably with unlimited bandwidth traffic.
- USB memory stick to back up your wallet.
- A clean computer to ensure safety and security for the wallet. Once installed, note you need to keep your computer clean and monitor your web browsing progress. Use anti-malware software (it’s free too) and remember to scan USB used for periodic backups.
- And the last thing you need to be patient in the process.
Steps to open a Bitcoin core account
Follow each step carefully:
Step 1:Download Bitcoin Core here and install the software.
Step 2: Launch the software
This is where you start to download transaction history that is more than 100 GB. The time it takes to complete the process will depend on your internet connection speed as well as the speed of your computer.
Step 3: Download is complete, please click the button Setting, and then visit Encrypt Wallet to set your password.
Once the password is set, the application will shut down. No attempt to cancel the process. That can destroy your wallet and blockchain client application.
Step 4: Once turned off, reboot again. Now will ask for password while login.
Step 5: Backup your wallet
Access button File and click “Backup Wallet”Then select the destination to save the backup. The file holding the Bitcoin Core wallet address will be automatically generated and the wallet’s private key. It’s a good idea to copy the wallet onto two or more USBs and do this often for best.
Step 6: Backup private key
You choose to follow the steps: Help –> Debug Window –> Console then enter the password you set earlier. Private key is the only way to move your Bitcoins out of your wallet. Backup it on paper like password and click “X“In the top right corner to delete Console.
That’s it, now you can use the wallet already. Here’s how to send and receive bitcoins.
Send Bitcoin
Step 1: Launch your wallet and click “Send“To fill out the submission form.
Enter the recipient’s address on “Pay to“. For addresses you send Bitcoin regularly, you have the option adding contacts.
To do this go to “File“And then click”Sending Addresses“And add a description under”Label“, Then enter your contacts. Note that addresses change frequently to keep them up to date.
Step 2: Enter the amount you want to send in BTC. Currently, extremely small amounts are difficult to send. Confirm the amount multiple times because you cannot reverse the transaction.
Step 3: Set a transaction fee to ensure your transaction is confirmed within the desired timeframe.
Slide the button “Confirmation Time”To the left or right, will decrease or increase the charge while decreasing or increasing the waiting time. If your fees are too low, the network will reject your transaction and the payment will reappear in your wallet.
Step 4: Check amount and billing address again and click “Send“, Then enter your password and select“OK“.
Receive bitcoins
Transfer bitcoin to the bitcoin core wallet
Step 1: Find your wallet address by clicking “File“Then go to”Receiving Addresses“. Then the receiving addresses table appears.
Step 2: Copy the address by right clicking on it and selecting “Copy“.
Step 3: Get the address, then use it to send bitcoins. It takes some time for the transaction to confirm. You can check your confirmation status by clicking “Transactions“.
Receive payments on your wallet
For example you are a service provider or a trader. If you want to receive payment on your bitcoin core wallet, do the following:
Step 1: Click to select the tab “Receive“In your wallet. Fill out the payment request form with all relevant details:
- Enter the amount you want in bitcoin in the “Amount“.
- “Label“Write transaction content or something up to you.
- “Messenge ” Message sent, or thanks.
Step 2: Click “Request Payment“To generate a QR code for the sender and submit the request. So, it’s too simple to finish, right.
Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of Bitcoin core
The pros are few, the downsides are too many. Easy to evaluate through the following categories:
Advantages
- As a full node that validates transactions and forwards them on the Bitcoin network, the wallet does not require a third party to verify the transaction. Instead, you can verify your own transactions
- Open source with a definite design offers full transparency
- Increased privacy by using revolving addresses and the option of using Tor as a proxy for anonymity protection
- Take complete control of your fees with the proposed fee.
Defect
- Many limitations
- The initial download takes a lot of time and data
- Takes up a lot of space as it is a full Bitcoin client application
- 500MB / day or 15GB / month download capacity and 5GB / day upload speed required to run Bitcoin Core.
- Users with limited bandwidth from their internet service provider may experience problems running client applications.
- Since the blockchain already knows the virus, the computer’s antivirus software can detect them and cause problems running Bitcoin Core.
- Not easy to use, especially for beginners and non-technical professionals.
- Currently, Bitcoin Core wallets can only run on laptops, desktops or ARM chipsets> 1 GHz.
- Attack target: Bitcoin Core powers the Bitcoin peer-to-peer network, so people who want to disrupt the network can attack Bitcoin Core users in a way that will affect other things you do with your computer.
Contribution to bitcoin core
You can contribute to growth in two ways:
- Contribute by way of: posting errors, writing code, ….
- Join the IRC (bitcoin-dev) chat room and discuss your plans with the developer.
Some related questions
- Reset app password: Choose “Settings ” then select “Encrypt Wallet ” and choose “Forgot Password ”. Follow the instructions and create a new password.
- Restore bitcoin core wallet: To access your wallet from another computer, you need your password. Additionally, the computer you are using must be running a Bitcoin Core client application that you can install. With your password and client application, you can access the wallet from any computer.
- Transaction is suspended: Resend with higher transaction fees. To do this, go to debug.console and use the abandon transaction command and then enter the transaction ID. If it succeeds, there will be no output and no errors.
Conclude
