Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold survived 400,000 folds, can last for 10 years

Xiaomi has also entered the foldable smartphone race, with the launch of the Mi MIX Fold not long ago. To demonstrate the durability of its folding screen technology, Xiaomi conducted a 1-week continuous folding test and broadcast live on CEO Lei Jun’s personal page.

In this test, the Mi MIX Fold will be folded and opened continuously, every 1.6 seconds, lasting 24 hours a day and 7 days in a row. That means in a period of one week, this Mi MIX Fold can reach 600,000 folds.

According to CEO Lei Jun’s latest share, the Mi MIX Fold has survived 5 days of testing, equivalent to about 400,000 folds. However, in normal use, no one can fold the screen every 1.6 seconds. Assuming you can open and fold about 100 times a day, then this Mi MIX Fold can last for 10 years.

That is also a very impressive figure. Especially when Xiaomi says the Mi MIX Fold can withstand about 200,000 theoretical folds. Mi MIX Fold is also Xiaomi’s first folding screen smartphone.

The hinge mechanism of the Mi MIX Fold is more special than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold, as it has a cooling system on the inside. These are very special heatsink graphite sheets, to help disperse the heat radiating from the processor or battery, evenly across both parts of the screen.
